Mother’s Day Project
Project Process & Purpose
The purpose of this project is as mentioned, a Mother’s Day gift. A few days before [insert date] I came across the idea of making your own paper. With this new inspiration I worked with my dad to create a simple mesh frame. Made of nothing but a piece of window mesh and a few wooden planks from my dad’s scrap bin. I used cuts of paper that was waste from other projects and used a blender to break it into pieces. I then went through the process of dyeing, sifting, and peeling the newly formed paper from its mesh.
Here I tried something new. Sprinkling seeds throughout two still damp pieces before letting the fresh paper dry. Doing this created a thick cardstock like paper that could be planted in a garden to grow into wildflowers.
With this finished paper I could take a different paper to paint and cut a bouquet of paper flowers to attach to the handmade paper. A handmade gift with a clever hidden use behind it for my mother.
The material
Making this was a lot of recycled supplies. With the sifter I used spare wood planks and a large cutting of window screen mesh that I had. For the paper itself I used all sorts of scraps from old projects and blended them all together. Everything else was watercolor paper, watercolors, and the seeds I had sprinkled in.
